Headshot of Joshua Newton

Joshua Newton

josnewton@dallasisd.org

Joshua Newton is a Dallas native who attended Dallas ISD schools for his K-12 education, including graduating from the Science and Engineering Magnet (SEM) as salutatorian. Newton took the love of STEM that incredible teachers in DISD fostered in him to The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his BS and MA in Mathematics. After graduating UT, Newton began his career in Dallas ISD by returning to SEM in 2007 where he taught math for twelve years and served in various leadership roles such as department chair and cluster coordinator. In addition to his teaching and leadership duties he coached the SEM UIL mathematics teams to multiple state titles. In 2013, Newton was recognized for his teaching excellence by being named the Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year.

In July 2019, Newton moved to DeSoto ISD to serve in the role of Senior Data Strategist where he led the Data, Design, and Innovation department. He provided data support to campus and district leaders and helped implement multiple district initiatives and programs. For his efforts, he was awarded the inaugural "Above and Beyond" award for DeSoto ISD. In 2022, Newton returned to Dallas ISD as the Director of Tutoring Services. In this role, he oversees the district's accelerated instruction implementation around HB 4545 and HB 1416 in 226 schools around the district.

While Newton has enjoyed his time in central staff, he is excited about returning to SEM to continue building on the outstanding academic traditions of the school.

Newton is excited to usher in this new chapter of SEM with the support of the amazing SEM community.

Newton currently lives in Oak Cliff with his wife who is a Dallas ISD high school teacher and their 4-year-old son who just started his Dallas ISD journey this year.
